At Norman Regional Health System, we're always seeking innovative ways to enhance patient care and support our dedicated healers. So we’re introducing you to Porter, the therapy dog, who is joining our team as our first “fur”-time employee.

Porter, a charming 10-week-old English Goldendoodle, is already melting hearts and spreading joy throughout our facilities.

In a recent message from our President and CEO, Richie Splitt, Porter was described as a source of comfort and support amidst the challenges of modern healthcare.

"Porter is here to support all of you, to support our patients and our visitors in their most challenging times," Splitt shared, emphasizing the profound impact Porter will have on our health system.

Porter's caretaker, Angie Bruce, a valued member of our security team, is excited to take on the role of his handler.

In a conversation with Splitt, Angie expressed her enthusiasm for this new responsibility, noting, "He's been wonderful... showing lots of love to everybody."

Angie's dedication to Porter's training reflects our commitment to ensuring he becomes a certified therapy dog, ready to provide comfort and companionship to those who need it most.

In his role as therapy dog-in-training, Porter will undergo rigorous preparation to become a certified healer.

From mastering basic obedience commands to learning specialized techniques for engaging with patients, Porter's journey is one of growth and learning. As he progresses through his training, we anticipate him becoming an invaluable asset in our mission to provide holistic care to our community.

In an environment where stressors can be abundant, Porter's presence offers a source of solace and connection.

We invite you to join us in welcoming Porter to the Norman Regional family!

When you encounter him during your visit, be sure to offer a friendly pat and a warm greeting. Additionally, consider contributing to the Norman Regional Health Foundation to support Porter's care, training and future endeavors. Porter would not be possible without the support from the Norman Regional Health Foundation.

Together, we can empower Porter to continue making a paw-sitive difference in the lives of all who walk through our doors!
