About M. Azam Farukhi, MD

Fellowship-trained Bariatric surgeon Dr. M. Azam Farukhi specializes in bariatric surgery and also performs general surgery. Dr. Farukhi hopes to continue to grow the bariatric program at Norman Regional and establish himself as a reliable, trusted bariatric surgeon. Helping patients reach their weight loss goals is Dr. Farukhi’s mission and passion.

He performs:

• Endoscopic gastric balloon
• Laparoscopic gastric sleeve
• Laparoscopic gastric bypass
• Hernia repairs
• Gallbladder

As a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Farukhi wants his patients to know that obesity isn’t a choice, and the number on the scale is just a measurement of their weight and not a measurement of who they are as a person.

“Medicine is my passion because it is rewarding and humbling to help people in dire times of need and get them to a better place,” Dr. Farukhi said. “I’m blessed to be in this field.”

Dr. Farukhi attended medical school and completed his residency at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Aside from medicine, Dr. Farukhi enjoys the outdoors, skiing, and drawing/animating. His newest hobby is making new stories for his son, which he said he hopes to publish into a series of children books.
