7 Reasons to Deliver at the HealthPlex

Labor & Delivery Virtual Tour from Norman Regional Health System on Vimeo.

Our team of experts are ready to care for you as you welcome your new addition into the world. We have you covered from the time you find out you’re expecting to when it’s time to deliver. We’re also here for you if any emergencies happen along the way. Our services are designed to allow you to bond with your baby from birth to going home.

1. Center of Excellence
Norman Regional Health System is the first program in the state of Oklahoma to be certified in Perinatal Care by The Joint Commission. This certification exemplifies the amount of work we put into quality improvement and best practice implementation. Most importantly, it shows our commitment to the health and safety of mothers and newborns in our community.

2. Expert physicians
We have multiple OB/GYNs in Moore and Norman who are ready to offer you quality and compassionate care throughout your pregnancy and delivery.Click here for tips on choosing an obstetrician. We also have multiple pediatricians in Moore and Norman who are ready to care for your new bundle of joy. Click here to find a pediatrician, and make sure you have one chosen before coming in to the Norman Regional Hospital to deliver.

3. OBED
Our Obstetrical Emergency Department (OBED) is located at Norman Regional Hospital and offers a physician who is a board-certified OB hospitalist 24 hours a day, seven days a week to evaluate you and your unborn child if needed. The OB hospitalist will work closely with your primary physician and the nursing staff to assess your condition, discuss your care options and provide appropriate treatment. The OBED also treats postpartum concerns up to six weeks postpartum.

4. Mother/Baby
After giving birth, mom and baby are moved to the Post-Partum Care floor, which offers 26 mother/baby couplet rooms. We take a family-centered approach to our labor and delivery services, so rather than placing your baby in the nursery, our highly skilled nurses and physicians come to you to provide care. This means the baby can stay with you from birth through discharge so you can have more time for bonding. If for some reason your baby needs special care and equipment, we also offer a newborn nursery and a Level III NICU. New moms and one guest are also served a special, fine dining meal during their hospital stay. Click here to learn more about the meals.

5. NICU
We have a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for babies who need additional care after they’re born. Some of the features of our NICU include:

  • A high-risk delivery team for premature babies or babies in distress
  • A board-certified neonatologist who is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Donor breast milk for babies
  • Neonatal transport
  • Kangaroo Care, a technique in which an infant is held skin-to-skin with its parent with a blanket over the baby's back to keep warm

While your baby is in the NICU, the Hospital offers 'rooming in' services that allow parents to stay in a hospital room the night before baby goes home.

6. Lactation Consultants
Our staff are all skilled in helping you get off to a good start, but in case you need expert advice, we offer a full lactation department with board-certified lactation consultants available seven days a week. After you go home, if you still feel the need for assistance, our consultants are available to you on an outpatient basis by appointment. Call 405-515-3500 to make an appointment or to learn more.

7. Pediatric Hospitalists
Norman Regional Hospital’s pediatric hospitalist service provides quality and compassionate inpatient care for hospitalized children. Pediatric hospitalists are pediatricians who work in hospitals providing care for children ages 0-18.

Our service provides:

  • Experienced pediatric hospitalists on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • A convenient location for families
  • Prompt, ongoing communication between hospitalists and primary care providers
