More than 525 elementary school children from seven Moore Public Schools participated in Kids Are Special People on November 15, 16, 17, and 18. The program was held in the Norman Regional Moore Conference Center, 700 S. Telephone Road.
This program is brand new to Moore and will educate fourth graders about heart attack and stroke signs, healthy eating, emergency awareness, dangers of tobacco , benefits of physical activity, and cyber safety. Kids Are Special People has been hosted by the Norman Regional Auxiliary for more than 30 years for local schools including Norman, Blanchard and Newcastle Public Schools, Community Christian School and All Saints Catholic School.
"This is the first year Kids Are Special People will be offered to Moore school children and the first year it will be hosted at the new Norman Regional Moore," said Wendy Fiebrich, Director of Volunteer Services. "Our volunteers and community partners understand the importance of education and teaching healthy habits at a young age and are excited to expand this program."
Kids are Special People is a partnership with Norman Regional Health System, Norman Regional Auxiliary volunteers, Moore Public Schools, and the Norman Regional Health Foundation.
"We were fortunate to receive two grants from AT&T and Cerner/First Hand Foundation to help launch the program in Moore," said Erin Barnhart, Director of the Norman Regional Health Foundation. "The items we were able to purchase from these generous partners will enhance the learning experience for these impressionable students."
