Norman Regional Health System’s Food and Nutrition Services is now offering new moms a special meal during their hospital stay.
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25, new moms and a guest can now order one fine dining meal between noon and 5 p.m. one of the days they are in the hospital.
“The food choices are amazing and we even have a vegetarian option,” said Mari Newcomer, nurse manager for Women’s and Children’s.
Meal choices available include:
- Tender New York strip steak served with a loaded baked potato and parmesan broccoli, dinner roll, a choice of Caesar or garden salad, dessert and beverage
- Golden fried coconut shrimp with sweet chili sauce, garlic butter rice, green bean almandine, dinner roll, a choice of Caesar or garden salad, dessert and beverage
- Cheddar stuffed poblano chile relleno (vegetarian option) with zesty cheese sauce, elote corn and simmered black beans, a choice of Caesar or garden salad, dessert and beverage
The meals are put together by Norman Regional’s chef based on what pairs well together, but Food and Nutrition Services can change out parts of the meal if there is something guests don’t like or prefer not to have.
“We wanted to offer a special treat for our new moms,” said Amanda Jones, director of Norman Regional’s Food and Nutrition Services.
Each meal is prepared specially for each new mom by Norman Regional’s chef so please allow up to an hour for Food and Nutrition Services to prepare and deliver the meal after ordering.
“Amanda approached us with the idea. She thought it would be a nice amenity since we are having to restrict guests because of COVID-19. We jumped at the opportunity,” said Susie Graves, director of Women’s and Children’s. “The maternal child healers sampled the meals and loved them. We can’t wait to start this program.”
