Norman Regional Health System is mourning the loss of Kyle Toal, MD, an expert in the field of cardiovascular surgery. Dr. Toal passed away on Feb. 28, 2023.
Dr. Toal was in practice at Norman Regional’s Heart and Vascular Associates. He was board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, and has been a member of the Norman Regional family since 1991. Dr. Toal’s impact on the community was incredibly wide-ranging and profound. From 2008 to 2023, he attended to more than 5,200 patients and performed more than 2,000 surgeries.
“Dr. Toal saved and improved the lives of many people during his years as a surgeon,” said Richie Splitt, president & CEO of Norman Regional. “He was a champion for health and always willing to educate the community on ways they could improve their heart health in particular. He was a pillar in our community and health system and a key driver behind the success of Norman Regional’s heart care program.”
Dr. Toal was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended medical school at University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and went on to complete a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Physiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He then returned to the University of Oklahoma’s Health Sciences Center to complete his residency in Thoracic Surgery. He also served as Chief Resident.
Our heart team is working to inform his patients and to transition their care to Dr. David Miller, Dr. Toal’s surgical partner. Details about funeral arrangements and a Norman Regional memorial will be communicated when available.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Toal’s family, friends and loved ones.
