Watch: Employees Say Goodbye to Former Hospital, New Era of Wellness Begins off I-35

Watch: Employees Say Goodbye to Former Hospital, New Era of Wellness Begins off I-35

On Sunday July 28, Norman Regional Hospital moved from its historic campus to a newly expanded hospital. This move is a new chapter in the health system’s legacy of compassionate and excellent patient care.

On Sunday, nine ambulances from EMSSTAT transported about 60 patients from one hospital to the other. The work started at 7 a.m. and was finished at 10:38 a.m.

One of those patients was Florence Wright. She said the ambulance ride was smooth and she loved the new facility!

Another was Charlotte De-Voe who remarked her nurses and doctors treated her like family. She said the new facility was beautiful and the colors used in the new facility were very soothing.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation unit moved earlier in the week on July 20.

Its first patient was Rodger Lalli. Lalli said the team at the hospital was very kind and supportive. He said he loves the new location’s bright rooms. Lalli said he was born at Norman Regional Hospital in 1959, so the occasion was somewhat bittersweet.

The newly expanded hospital houses:

  • An expanded Emergency Department
  • A new Critical Care Tower
  • A Medical Surgical Tower
  • An Ambulatory Care Center with diagnostic imaging and laboratory services
  • The Pavilion with maternal and child health and the inpatient rehabilitation center
  • Operating suites
  • A multi-level, 700-space parking garage for visitors and patients
  • Complimentary valet parking

Closing One Chapter on Porter, Beginning a New One

The former Norman Regional Hospital is now called The Porter Health Village. It is home to an Urgent Care in the former Emergency Department. The Urgent Care is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. It also features a lab draw station, so patients needing testing can walk in, no appointment needed!

The team also honored the former hospital and emergency room with a last call. The "last call" is a tradition where first responders who are retiring are honored over the radio. The Porter Emergency Department proudly served the community for seven decades. Norman Regional EMSSTAT and the team of healers from Norman Regional gathered to radio in that one final honor.

Norman Regional wishes to send a thank you to our employees, who we call Healers, for their compassion and excellence. We close this chapter, but look forward to see the same healers writing history again at the new location off Tecumseh Road.
