Innovative ZeroG Technology Helps Oklahoma Patients Walk Again Thanks to Local Donors

Patients in Oklahoma now have a new, cutting-edge tool to help them walk again, thanks to the generosity of local donors who funded state-of-the-art equipment at Norman Regional Health System.

Norman Regional Health System is proud to announce that it’s the first in Oklahoma to offer the ZeroG robotic body-weight support system. This advanced technology enhances the quality of life for patients by improving strength and mobility for those who have experienced stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, amputations, and orthopedic injuries.

The ZeroG system creates a reduced gravity-like environment, allowing patients greater freedom of movement without the fear of falling. This innovative approach enables physical therapists to provide more effective and safer rehabilitation.

“If we want to offer our patients the best available care, we have to get them walking faster and further. A tool like the ZeroG ensures we can do this safely,” said Ben Vandaveer, a physical therapist and manager of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Norman Regional.

The acquisition of the ZeroG system was made possible through the efforts of the Norman Regional Health Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports Norman Regional Health System. The system was funded through the Foundation’s $4 million Equipped for Tomorrow campaign, which received significant support from local donors who recognized the impact this technology would have on the state and those regaining their abilities.

“Our donors heard from both therapists and patients who had used this system in other states. They knew the outstanding results that the entire team experienced. Now patients will no longer have to drive out-of-state to get this life-altering treatment,” said Erin Barnhart, executive director of The Norman Regional Health Foundation.

With the ZeroG robotic body-weight support system, Norman Regional Health System continues its commitment to providing the best care for its patients, ensuring they receive top-notch rehabilitation services close to home.
