Norman Regional Honors Transformative CEO, Embarks on Next Chapter

Norman Regional Health System announced Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024 that Richie Splitt will be stepping down from the role of chief executive officer after more than 11 years of exemplary leadership.

The Norman Regional Hospital Authority Board of Trustees expresses its deepest gratitude for Splitt’s visionary leadership, which has elevated our health system to new heights of excellence and innovation in healthcare delivery, said Doug Cubberley, Board Chair.

"Richie's tenure has been nothing short of extraordinary. Under his leadership, our organization has not only overcome significant challenges, but has emerged stronger, more resilient, and better positioned to serve our community. His legacy is one of deep commitment to patient care, operational excellence, and community service. Norman Regional Health System extends its heartfelt appreciation to Richie for his incredible contributions and looks forward to celebrating his achievements in the future,” Cubberley said.

Norman Regional Health System is dedicated to the care of our communities. Our team is thousands of people all working towards a shared mission and vision. Leadership changes are occurring but what will never change is our commitment to the patients and the communities we serve.

During Splitt’s remarkable tenure, he led the organization through:

  • The rebuilding of its Moore hospital campus in the wake of a devastating tornado in 2013, demonstrating exceptional crisis leadership and compassion
  • Guiding the community through the COVID-19 pandemic with nationally recognized innovative approaches for drive-through vaccines, outpatient infusions and expanded telemedicine access
  • Overseeing the completion of nearly 1 million square feet of the Inspire Health plan construction, renovation and expansion - including the new behavioral health serves and adding the state's second NCI-designated cancer care facility - OU Stephenson’s Cancer Center at Norman Regional
  • Elevating trust in the community and significantly improving employee engagement

"It has been the honor of my career to serve this remarkable institution and community,” Splitt said. “The dedication of our staff, physicians, and leadership team has been the driving force behind our success. I have no doubt the incredible momentum we've built together will propel Norman Regional to even greater heights in the years to come."

As Splitt concludes this chapter of his distinguished career at Norman Regional, the organization looks to build upon the strong foundation we have established, Cubberley said.

Norman Regional has named Aaron Boyd, MD, chief physician executive, and Rick Wagner, chief financial officer, as co-chief executive officers. This marks an era where Norman Regional will be jointly physician led and professionally managed, with a focus on physician alignment, quality and efficiencies. The board is confident that our senior leadership team will continue to guide the organization with the same passion and commitment to excellence that defines our culture.
