Norman Regional Nationally Recognized in Heart and Stroke Care by the American Heart Association

Norman Regional Health System has once again proven its dedication to delivering exceptional cardiovascular and stroke care, earning national recognition from the American Heart Association (AHA). The Health System has received the Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease award in the NSTEMI and STEMI Receiving with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll categories, as well as the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll and the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Gold Plus with Target: Heart Failure with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, a distinction that highlights its commitment to evidence-based, life-saving heart and stroke care.

Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association 2025 Statistical Update. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.

Get With The Guidelines puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. By participating in the Get With The Guidelines program, Norman Regional has demonstrated its dedication to not just meeting—but exceeding—the national standard for cardiovascular care and stroke care.

What Is the Get With The Guidelines® Program?

Developed by the American Heart Association, the Get With The Guidelines® program helps hospitals improve care and outcomes for patients. It offers proven tools to enhance coordination among emergency responders, hospitals and specialists—ensuring timely, effective treatment across the entire cardiac and stroke care continuum.

American Heart Association Commitment to Quality Award

In addition to earning awards in stroke and heart care, Norman Regional has also earned the American Heart Association Commitment to Quality award. 2025 marks the first year for this award level, recognizing an elite group of hospitals that reached achievement level in three or more Get With The Guidelines modules, a status only achieved by 158 sites in the nation.

Hospitals earning this new award demonstrate a comprehensive approach to quality improvement. By participating in three or more Get With The Guidelines programs, they commit to using real-time data registries, evidence-based protocols and cross-disciplinary teamwork to raise the standard of care across multiple specialties.

Saving Lives Through Standardized, High-Quality Care

Norman Regional's heart and stroke teams have embraced these protocols system-wide, improving communication and treatment pathways to ensure every patient receives timely and effective care. This coordinated approach translates to more lives saved and healthier recoveries.

“Receiving these awards is a tremendous honor that reflects the commitment and excellence of our entire healthcare team,” said Kim Hills, RN, Quality Program Administrator. “These awards are a testament to the dedication we have in providing top-tier care to our cardiac patients, ensuring that every individual receives the best possible treatment and support. This recognition not only highlights our team's hard work but also reinforces our continuous efforts to improve outcomes, save lives, and foster a culture of innovation and compassion in cardiovascular care.”

“These awards show Norman Regional's commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, past volunteer president of the American Heart Association and current volunteer chair of the Association’s Quality Oversight Committee. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Norman Regional can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
