Fall is in the air. If ordinary activities make you feel winded or short of breath, Norman Regional’s pulmonary care services can help. From asthma to infections, lung cancer to nodules, our dedicated team can help you breathe easier.

“Shortness of breath is one of the most common reasons for a person to see a physician,” said Christopher Parker, MD, a board-certified pulmonary physician with Norman Regional Health System’s Pulmonary Clinic.

Norman Regional’s pulmonary services offer complete respiratory care from the 24-hour hospital wide coverage for inpatients to our two dedicated outpatient clinics.  Our outpatient clinics are located at Robinson Medical Plaza and Doctors Park for your convenience.

These clinics offer a variety of services from interventional pulmonology stents to brachytherapy, laser ablations, endobronchial ultrasound biopsies and even GPS guided biopsies.

Our clinics also offer two dedicated rooms with Pulmonary Function Testing booths. The Pulmonary Function test gives us a “snapshot” of how the lungs are performing, similar to an EKG but more focused on the lungs, Dr. Parker said. The test lets the physicians know if the patient is breathing deep enough or if they aren’t breathing out all of the air they’re supposed to breathe out.

Non-invasive tests like Cardio Exercise Tests (CPET) are also performed at our clinics.  A CPET assesses how well the heart, lungs and muscles are working both individually and together.  During a CPET the full cardiopulmonary system can be looked at by measuring the amount of oxygen the body is using, the amount of carbon dioxide is being produced, breathing patterns, and an electrocardiogram (EKG) while the patient is exercising on a treadmill.

Norman Regional’s team of experts includes four board-certified pulmonary, critical care and internal medicine physicians.  The team also includes 50 full-time credentialed respiratory therapists working with our emergency departments, intensive care units, pediatric floor and the neonatal intensive care unit.

Whether it’s in the hospital setting or at one of our two outpatient Pulmonary Care clinics, our dedicated team evaluates and treats all types of respiratory issues from asthma to emphysema and everything in between. Let Norman Regional’s pulmonary care services help you get back to enjoying your everyday activities.
