Norman Regional 100 Days Away from the Expansion Opening and Move

Norman Regional Health System is just 100 days away from the opening of the expansion at the HealthPlex. The expansion includes a new 96-bed Critical Care Tower, Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), a larger emergency department with additional rooms, and concourse-style entry with a new Daily Grind, Gift Shop, chapel, parking garage, and more.

The team has been busy preparing to welcome healers and combining the HealthPlex and Porter campuses into one, said Richie Splitt, President and CEO of Norman Regional Health System.

“There has been a lot of exciting progress and change underway over the past five years,” Splitt said. “All of this is part of Norman Regional Health System's Inspire Health Strategic Plan, a visionary initiative aimed at elevating healthcare accessibility and patient care standards in our community. With nearly 1 million square feet of construction, we’re transforming our health system.”

Norman Regional HealthPlex Name Change

Norman Regional Hospital, located at 901 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, OK will move acute care services such as the emergency department, intensive care unit, surgery services and inpatient care to the Norman Regional HealthPlex, located at 3300 HealthPlex Parkway in Norman. Due to this consolidation, both campuses will change names.

The Norman Regional HealthPlex will change its name to Norman Regional Hospital on July 28, 2024, becoming the flagship hospital and corporate headquarters for the health system.

The former Norman Regional Hospital, located at 901 N. Porter Ave, will be called the Porter Health Village. Services remaining in this building include medical oncology, radiation oncology and a newly remodeled Education Center that will remain on the Porter Health Village campus permanently. An urgent care clinic is planned for the Porter Health Village. It will be located inside the former hospital’s emergency department.

Cancer services will relocate to the new OU Stephenson Cancer Center at Norman Regional once construction is completed in mid-to-late 2025.

“We are adding a new Cancer Center, made possible through our partnership with the OU Stephenson Cancer Center. This makes Norman Regional the second location in the state of Oklahoma to be designated as a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center,” Splitt said. “Why does that matter? Because patients can now receive expanded access to top-tier cancer care right here in Norman, eliminating the need for lengthy travels for treatment.”

The Porter Health Village also is the location of the City of Norman’s Adult Wellness Center and the new Behavioral Health Center, a 48-bed inpatient hospital for adults that’s made possible through our partnership with Oceans Healthcare.

Important Dates for Norman Regional

• The Behavioral Health Center at the Porter Health Village will host a Grand Opening Celebration on Thursday, May 23. The times will be announced at a later time. Its first patient day is tentatively scheduled for early June 2024.
• A Ribbon Cutting for the Norman Regional Hospital expansion is planned for the afternoon of Thursday, July 18.
• The public is invited to celebrate the opening of the Norman Regional Hospital with tours of the new hospital spaces. The Open House Celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 20.
• At 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024, the emergency department located at 901 N. Porter Ave in Norman will cease operations and no longer accept patients. At the same time, the newly expanded emergency department at Norman Regional Hospital will officially open on Sunday, July 28.
