4 Steps to Choosing a Pediatrician
So it’s time to find a pediatrician or a family medicine physician who sees pediatric patients. Maybe you’re about to become a parent, or maybe you’ve moved to a new city. You’ve got to find someone you feel comfortable talking to, someone your kids will love. What should you be looking for?
- Location. Should you look for a pediatrician or family medicine who sees pediatric patients closer to home, to your work or to their school? Which will be most convenient for you?
- Insurance Network. Check with your insurance provider to make sure this provider is in the network – it will be less expensive than visiting an out-of-network doctor.
- Access to a Health System. If your child ever needs a specialist or a hospital procedure, it’s often easier to get a referral when the doctor is connected with a comprehensive health system.
- Personality. Of course, you’ll want a doctor your kids like! Look up your potential doctor on review sites like HealthGrades, RateMDs or Vitals. It’s also OK to make appointments with a few different doctors to find one you like.
