Norman Regional Health System recently celebrated its 2024 physician award winners, recognizing outstanding providers for their dedication to patient care, community service and excellence in medicine. Among this year’s honorees, Ortho Central’s Brian Clowers, MD, was named Outstanding Physician of the Year, a distinction voted on by Norman Regional’s employees, known as Healers.

A Humbling and Unexpected Honor

Dr. Clowers, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle disorders, was taken by surprise when he learned he had been selected for the award.

“It was extremely unexpected—nothing you ever anticipate receiving,” Dr. Clowers said. “But it was definitely appreciated and truly humbling. Having people vote on something like this and say such kind things about you—it humbles you pretty quickly. It was a very surprising, very appreciated honor, and I was more than happy to accept it.”

Dr. Clowers’ colleagues describe him as precise and dedicated, with meticulous attention to detail in everything from patient care to scheduling. His nominators even noted his signature bow tie as part of his well-known professionalism.

A Passion for Orthopedic Surgery and Patient Care

Dr. Clowers’ journey into medicine was fueled by his early passion for surgery and the technical challenge of orthopedic procedures.

“I knew early on in my medical education that I wanted to be a surgeon,” Dr. Clowers said. “I was drawn to orthopedic surgery because of the spatial reasoning it demands and the ability to have tangible impacts on patients’ function.”

He has a special interest in arthroscopy of the ankle, athletic conditions of the foot and ankle and arthritis management. Whether reconstructing joints or treating sports-related injuries, Dr. Clowers is dedicated to providing his patients with the highest level of care.

Beyond Medicine

Dr. Clowers’ talents extend beyond the operating room. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music and was awarded the Mask of the White Buffalo by the University of Oklahoma School of Dance for his service to the program. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, playing golf and cheering on OU athletics. He and his wife, Leslie, share three children—a set of twin girls and a son.

Recognizing Excellence in Medicine

Dr. Clowers’ recognition as Outstanding Physician of the Year is a testament to his commitment to his patients, colleagues, and the broader Norman community. His dedication to orthopedic excellence and compassionate care makes him a truly deserving recipient of this honor.

Congratulations, Dr. Clowers, on this well-earned recognition!
