Norman Regional Health System offers an oasis of tranquility and healing through inpatient behavioral medicine services. Our dedicated team of board-certified psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, licensed professional counselors, and registered nurses specialize in the treatment of adult and geriatric patients living with severe mental illness. Our goal in behavioral medicine is to provide a multidisciplinary team approach to ensure our patients receive the most effective care for their individual needs.

Tailored Therapy Programs & Healing Companions

Patients benefit from a comprehensive approach to therapy, allowing for well-rounded mental healthcare services in Norman and enhanced patient outcomes. That’s why we encourage our patients to be thoroughly engaged in individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and various unit activities. When needed, our team can also provide medical detoxification services, assessing each case individually with our psychiatrist to ensure which cases may or may not be clinically appropriate.

The presence of Chowder, our beloved therapy dog, also epitomizes the warmth and unconditional acceptance we foster within our unit. Patients revel in his bi-monthly visits, finding joy and positive distraction in his playful nature.

Continuum of Care to Promote Long-Term Healing

The journey towards wellness is sustained beyond inpatient treatment, which is why we urge patients to engage in continued care options. We believe this helps in solidifying progress and aiding in long-term recovery.

If you or a loved one is navigating the stormy waters of mental illness and could benefit from inpatient care, Norman Regional is here to offer peace amid the storm. We have been proudly providing confidential and compassionate mental healthcare services in Norman and the surrounding areas since 1985.

Therapy Dog

Meet Chowder, a Golden Retriever who visits with patients at our Behavioral Medicine inpatient unit twice a month. He loves to lay on his back and get his belly rubbed, and although he’s a retriever, his owner says the only thing he likes to retrieve is dog treats! Our patients love how he accepts them unconditionally and their time with him seems to take the focus off their problems for a little while. The mood of the entire of the unit is lifted when Chowder is around!
