Cardiac scoring is the best noninvasive test for measuring coronary artery calcium content. It is used to diagnose coronary artery disease in an early state and to determine its severity. Cardiac scoring is at least 10 time more powerful a predictor of coronary artery disease episodes than cholesterol screening. On the day of your exam, after completion of your scan, you will be provided a copy of your Preliminary Calcium Scoring Report. Your calcium score correlates with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis.
A low score suggests a low likelihood of coronary artery disease, but it does not exclude the possibility of significant coronary artery narrowing. The results should be discussed with your physician.
In addition to your Preliminary Calcium Scoring Report, one of the nine Norman Regional Health System’s board certified radiologist will analyze all images taken during your exam and create a signed Final Report. If any incidental findings are discovered they will be addressed within this report. This report will be available to you within (5) five business days via our patient portal, or you can personally pick it up at any of our 3 main campuses. If you wish to have the report sent to a healthcare provider of your choice, then all you have to do is let us know when you register for your exam. This is often the preferred method as a physician can more clearly explain the results and the terminology used in the report and address and concerns or questions you may have.
Acquiring the Final Report and following up on any recommendations within that report is solely your responsibility and not the responsibility of Norman Regional Health System.
You could benefit from a heart or heart and lung scan if you have any of these risk factors:

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Norman Regional offers a low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan, which noninvasively and painlessly screens for lung cancer. One of our highly trained radiologists will review the images, and our specialized nurse navigator will notify you of any abnormal findings or simply send you a letter if the findings are normal. This screening provides a point of reference for tests you may need throughout your life. We recommend you share all results and findings with your primary care physician.
This screening is recommended for people who:
